Rules for the Pool

Pool rules will vary from home to home, depending on the type of pool you have, the people who use it and which amenities (e.g. diving boards, slides, etc.) you’ve added. However, there are some basics that apply to any backyard pool. The following are some suggestions you should consider including in your own list of rules.

Children should only swim when supervised by an adult.

Any pool covers must be completely removed before any swimmer enters the water.

Play with care. Don’t push or jump on others. (Even the friendliest ‘dunking’ game can be very dangerous.)

Walk—don’t run—on the pool deck.

No diving allowed (feet-first entries only).

No alcoholic beverages allowed near or in the pool. (Liquor and pools don’t mix!)

Keep the pool deck free of debris and toys at all times.

No glassware or other breakables allowed on the pool deck; only use plastic cups.

Pool gates must be closed at all time.
